“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
— Nelson Mandela
Most tobacco control programs in California are focused on work in their local communities because of their specific funding objectives. However, every day there are important decisions being made at the state level that ultimately affect your work or are the direct result of your efforts.
That is why the Center hosts several events throughout the year to help Proposition 99 funded agencies educate and build relationships with California state legislators.
As an event participant you’ll educate legislators about the harmful impact of tobacco (both locally and statewide) and share local solutions you’re using to address tobacco issues in your communities. The goal of the meetings is for legislators and their staff to see your work as critical in their community, ask them to get involved with your efforts and let them know that you are the local resource for them on tobacco control topics.
