Smoking continues to have a deadly toll in California, causing the deaths of more than 36,000 Californians each year. The California Legislature and other state agencies play a big role in protecting Californians from the impact of tobacco. Not only does the Legislature regularly consider tobacco-related bills, it is also responsible for passing the budget, including the disbursement of Proposition 99 monies, which fund the California Tobacco Control Program.
