Legislative Update: June 14, 2018
May and June contain many important deadlines for the state Capitol. May 25th was the final day for bills to pass the fiscal committee in their house of origin. June 1st was the final day for all bills to be approved by a full floor vote in their house of origin. Bills that failed to make it out of their house of origin will no longer move forward.
The next big legislative deadline will be June 29th, when all fiscal bills must pass their policy committees.
Seven tobacco-related bills are moving through the legislature:
AB 62 (Wood – D, Healdsburg) Public housing: smoke-free policy
AB 1097 (Levine – D, San Rafael) State beaches and parks, smoking ban
AB 2020 (Quirk – D, Hayward) Cannabis: local jurisdiction licensees: temporary event license
SB 631 (Nielsen – R, Gerber) Nitrous oxide: retail sales
SB 835 (Glazer – D, Orinda) Parks: smoking ban
SB 836 (Glazer – D, Orinda) State beaches: smoking ban
SB 1408 (Pan – D, Sacramento) Cigarettes: seizure
Two tobacco-related bills will no longer move forward:
AB 2308 (Stone – D, Scotts Valley) Cigarettes: single-use filter ban
AB 3225 (Burke – D, Inglewood) California Children and Families Program
